Chain guide. This is designed to reduce the risk of the chain coming away from the sprocket. It acts as a guide close to the sprocket so that when the frame flexes the chain remains in position. This could save you money in broken chains, damaged sprockets and clutches as well as many other parts. Also as it fits close to the sprocket it eliminates the need for other guarding to reduce the risk of injury.
